How To Paint Mesh Metal Patio Furniture

In typical over sharing fashion, earlier this week, I shared a ridiculous amount of deets from our summer. I mentioned the b-24-hour interval BBQ, but I failed to mention the b-day BBQ prep. Become set for information technology, folks. I'thousand about to spill my guts well-nigh how to paint patio article of furniture and my dislike for Wal- Mart paint. This was some dramatic DIY.

We got the patio furniture free with the new house. So, that was super squeamish, but information technology looked similar this:

I can't complain because we got ix chairs and 2 benches fo' free, fellas. 2 of the chairs are rocking chairs and alive on the front porch, 4 chairs are boisterous, one is cute and retro (run across him in the dorsum), and one is simply a regular ol' chair. But, cheque out their condition. Crusty and rusty.

We knew we wanted to get these suckers painted, simply how? Well, I did what I ever exercise, and went and bought some good ol' spray paint. I bought 10 cans thinking that would comprehend at least the 5 chairs in the back.  I even went and bought a fancy $four spray tin nozzle, yous know, so you don't have to injure your thumb so bad? I washed and stale my chairs and set them up for a spray-extravaganza:

And I sprayed and waited for information technology to dry, similar a good kid. And I sprayed and waited for information technology to dry out. And I sprayed and waited for information technology to dry. Catching my drift? It took forever, and these 2 chairs ate the 10 cans of spray paint for breakfast. And they nevertheless wanted more. (Note: Those ii gallons of paint below were bought to save our living room walls. In brusque, the greyness was way too dark, so we dumped white paint in to lighten information technology up.  More on that drama here.)

OK, then my ii chairs were eating spray paint, and yet looking pathetic. I was bellyaching. They needed at least two more than bottles of spray paint. Each. This method was going to be a lot of work. And at $1 per tin of Wal Mart spray paint (maybe, that is where I went wrong), each chair was going to price $7 minimum. Who knows how many cans a bench would accept. The signal is, I was over it. I wanted a pigment sprayer. Oh and my thumbs hurt also. The dumb sprayer I bought did non work very well.

Super Andy to the rescue. He got on yelp, and found u.s.a. some one who would spray our xi pieces of article of furniture for $120. That's $10.90 a chair. Yes, delight come and save my thumbs and our crusty furniture. Ironically, 2 kids showed upwardly with a paint sprayer and I discovered they were also from College Station, TX and even went to high school with my footling brother. They set up shop, and sprayed. Oh wait, allow me back up. I had to purchase paint at present. I quickly ran to Wal Mart and grabbed 2 gallons of exterior Color Infinite pigment. Oh and I decided that 360 needed a quick spray makeover too, that'south why she's out there too.

So, the guys set the sprayer and went to work. 2 gallons of paint later, the paint had barley covered anything. Oh and it was peeling off, kind of like glue. Glutinous, glue all over our patio article of furniture. Joy. The sprayer dudes said they take never seen anything like information technology. Hither's the culprit. And I fifty-fifty spent the extra $five a gallon, and bought exterior! Grr. Annotation to self: Never buy Wal Mart paint once again.

Hither's what happened, come across how it's clumpy and sticky looking? Yea, information technology was all over the furniture.  Andy sprinted to Home Depot, and grabbed 1 gallon of white outside paint. Nosotros probably should have sanded the mess off, but nosotros didn't. Oops. They were free and are living outside. I was over it.

The ane gallon of paint finished all of the furniture! It was amazing what a difference the paint fabricated. It covered nearly 10x better than the Wal Mart paint. Oh and encounter the lilliputian pigment sprayer:

Here is the pigment sprayer in action. As you can run across, information technology was getting nighttime and the furniture was not dry enough to plow over to paint the back side. So, the dainty guys left us their machine and we finished upwards the task in the morning! Can you believe it? So squeamish. They came and picked up their machine the next evening.

One last matter, if you turn the article of furniture over before information technology is completely dry, this is what happens. Yea, not fun. I had to painstakingly pick the pigment out of the holes. Grr. Double grrr.

So, that'southward patio furniture painting saga. Fun, huh? Here's a little recap of what not to do:

• Don't call up you are going to spray paint 11 pieces of patio furniture by mitt.
• Practise rent or pay someone to use pigment sprayer.
• Don't use outdoor Wal Mart pigment in the paint sprayer.
• Don't  turn the pieces over until they are 100% dry. This will take 24 hours at a minimum.

But, the finish result is oh and so much better! Cheque information technology out:
